What kind of year is 2027?

2027 is 丁未 (jeong-mi in Korean, hinoto-hitsuji in Japanese), the year of the Fire Goat, also called the Sheep. The heavenly stem 丁 is yin fire: the steady light of a candle or a lamp rather than a bonfire. The earthly branch 未 is the Goat, the dry, warm earth of late summer. Fire feeding earth makes a cultivating year: good for craft, learning, care and slow building, less kind to rushing. The Goat is gentle and sociable, so relationships and taste count for more than force.

When does the Goat year start?

In saju, the Korean Four Pillars, and in Japanese fortune-telling, the year turns at Ipchun (立春, the Start of Spring) on 4 February 2027 and runs until 4 February 2028. Lunar New Year, used for the zodiac in everyday Chinese and Korean life, falls on 6 February 2027 in China and 7 February in Korea. Tai Sui: which animals meet the year head-on

Chinese tradition names the year deity Tai Sui and watches which animals meet it. In 2027 the Goat faces its own year (本命年); the Ox sits opposite and clashes (丑未沖); the Rat is in a quiet harm relation (子未害); the Dog meets punishment and break (戌未刑破). These are pressure points to plan around, not verdicts. The Horse is the Goat's six-harmony partner and has the smoothest year.

Samjae: the Korean "three hazardous years"

Korean folk belief has samjae, three years in a row in which a group of animals is told to take care. Rabbit, Goat and Pig entered samjae in 2025, and 2027 is their leaving year (nal-samjae), traditionally the mildest of the three. Many Koreans simply use it as a reminder to finish things carefully; the same three animals are also the Goat's triad partners, so the year has real support.
