How to use a monthly reading

A monthly reading is a tool for deciding how to spend the month. Something that looks unsteady day by day often shows, across a month, which week deserves your effort. Here is how to read each part.

Read the week-by-week flow first

The week-by-week flow is more useful in practice than the month's total. Two months with the same total call for entirely different plans if one peaks in the first week and the other in the last. Put an important meeting or announcement where the flow rises, and use the falling weeks for tidying up and review.

How it differs from the daily reading

If the daily reading is the weather, the monthly reading is the season. A good season still has rainy days, and a poor one still has clear ones — which is why the two should be read together. If the month runs well but today scores low, treat it as a pause; if the month calls for caution and today scores high, it is still safer to hold off on the big move.

When to look

A monthly reading is most useful before the month begins, or within the first week at the latest — once half the month has gone, there is little left to adjust. The result is rebuilt whenever the month turns, so check it once at the start of each month and pair it with the weekly and daily readings to keep the thread unbroken.
